Walls, a roof and a bit of glass too?
We don’t give a dink about the rain.
At The Palms we are very close to not worrying about those April showers that are famous for bringing May flowers. By the end of this month, our building will be fully enclosed and dry like a summer day in Seattle.
The Kingspan panels (those metal panels that form the exterior of the building) are almost fully installed, and the roof is being constructed as you read this update.
We’ve had some questions about the building exterior’s current lack of fashion sense. No need to worry. That large expanse of gray panel will soon be a lovely backdrop for a vibrant mural, inspired by the dynamism of pickleball. The dimensional mural, a fabulous piece by local artist Sam Wood Wilson, will be installed beginning in mid-May. Keep your eyes peeled!
In addition to the exterior work, framing has begun in the two “wings” located at either end of the court structure. The wings are where amenities such as Mainstay Provisions at The Palms, restrooms, showers, The ProShop and lobby are located. You can see the lobby progress in one of the photos below.
An additional photo below is taken from inside the first floor of courts looking back at the lobby and The Loft lounge above it. You can see what this view will look like in the renderings below (scroll down)!
Looking ahead: With a watertight building to work in, interior construction begins in earnest. In May we’ll begin the process of court surfacing. Hooray! Pickleball fans can look forward to experiencing a plexi cushion court surface which is a blend of rubber and paint. The courts will be easier on our all important human joints while creating better bounce consistency. Construction is expected to be complete this summer and we will open The Palms to our first players in August.
