Building bliss on 15th Ave. W
A heartfelt February construction update
Speaking of Valentine’s Day and all things love…we’re head over heels, infatuated even, with the sight of our building rising up on 15th. We can really start to see how the spaces will feel! In the past month, the Sellen team completed the installation of the structure’s steel beams and columns. Now the team is working on the installation of a new 12” water main for the building, waterproofing the ground and preparing it for the upcoming concrete pours for the new slab on grade that will form the base for the ground floor courts. The 10 courts on the 2nd floor will have their concrete floors completed by the end of next week.
The building’s first level is shown in the photo below. The gravel is meant to block any below-grade ground moisture from getting into the ground floor. That, coupled with the waterproofing membrane will create excellent conditions for the court surfaces. The columns you see in the middle of the structure outline the walkway that will run between the courts. Ten full-size courts will each be surrounded with fencing, with 5 courts on each side of the columns. Plus 10 more upstairs!
The series of photos below show the slab creation process. In the first photo you can see the north staircase to the upper level in the background.
Oh look! It’s our neighbors, The Seattle Storm! In the next photo you can see the BECU Storm Center for Basketball Performance, located just a block away from The Palms. This image was taken from the upper level of the building, which will be home to 10 courts as well as the delectable Mainstay Provisions at The Palms cafe!
Looking ahead: If you happen to drive by The Palms in the coming weeks, you’ll see an exciting addition to the structure: WALLS! As anticipated, all the exterior wall framing will be completed in the next few weeks followed by the installation of the exterior metal walls. We’re super excited and hope you are too!
